January General Meeting

Preserving the Legacy of Bynum,

North Carolina

Wednesday, January 15, 2025

1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The Gathering Place

For our first meeting of the new year, the Women of Fearrington will host Debbie Tunnell, Diane Swan, and Susie Crate. These three local women share their passion of preserving Bynum's legacy by securing its spot on the Historic Registry. One hundred fifty years ago, Bynum was a prosperous textile mill village with a tight-knit community five miles south of Fearrington Village. Today, the mill has long closed, and the population has dwindled. However, a thriving community arts scene has risen in this unique place. From summer Friday night Bynum Front Porch concerts to Saturday bluegrass jams to an open house bazaar at the old store for your holiday needs, Bynum has continued to flourish. Our speakers will share with us what makes Bynum unique and the excitement surrounding the proposal for the Historic Register.

Debbie Tunnell, Diane Swan, and Susie Crate are three women dedicated to preserving the legacy of Bynum, North Carolina. Debbie Tunnell was on the founding Board of Directors for Bynum Front Porch and continues as a volunteer. Debbie Tunnell and Diane Swan worked to get the Bynum Bridge on the National Register of Historic Places. Susie Crate joined in 2023 to explore how to get the village of Bynum on the Historic Register. The Bynum Historic Designation Committee is now raising the necessary funding.
